sun-up to the gun

In 2005 I was a part of the Boston Marathon “Sun-up to the Gun” project. The project was supported by the New England Sports Museum, and became a traveling exhibit that went to Marathon, Greece. It was quite an experience being in Hopkinton, and watching race day unfold. I was assigned to shoot outside of the elite athlete warm up area, but ended up shooting the entire race venue. I did somehow manage to get into the warm-up area, where all of the top level athletes were getting ready. It was completely silent in preparation for the race. The energy and tension were palpable. Every time I clicked the shutter it was as if a cannon was going off. I was eventually asked to leave (woops!), but ended up getting a lot of shots that I’ve never seen anywhere else. Enjoy!
